Our History
Umurinzi
w'Ubuzima Organisation (UWUO) is a dedicated community-based organization that
has been established with the mission of preventing non-communicable diseases
(NCDs). Located in Karongi District, Bwishura Sector, Kiniha Cell, UWUO was
officially launched on 23rd April 2023 during an important meeting held at Snow
Hotel in Musanze District. Recognized for its commitment to health protection,
the organisation was registered with the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) on 1
October 2023 and subsequently received its certificate of operation on 29
December 2023. This formal registration underlines UWUO's readiness to address
the pressing issue of NCDs in the region.
The
origins of UWUO can be traced back to an association initiated by DUSHIMIMANA
Jonathan and conceived during a meeting in Muhanga on 9 April 2022. The
motivation for its transformation into a community-based organization came from
the alarming realization that NCDs were claiming many lives across Rwanda. The
lack of adequate information and the negative influence of unqualified doctors
spreading misinformation were exacerbating the crisis. Convinced of the need
for a more structured and effective approach, the members of the association
decided to evolve into UWUO. They began the process of formal registration with
the RGB to create a robust platform to combat NCDs and ensure that accurate
health information reaches those in need.
